fighting cancer every day.

Imagine a world in which everyone has access to the resources and support they need to fight cancer, and in which no effort is spared to prevent cancer from claiming any more lives. That's the world Kom op tegen Kanker is working towards. The NGO campaigns tirelessly for better policies on cancer, support for patients, fundraising, correct information about cancer and much more.

Step by step, we have been helping to develop Kom op tegen Kanker's digital landscape since 2013, and we have been making every effort to supply the charity with the technology and infrastructure it needs to reach its target audience and make a difference.

how does our solution work?

A corporate website is an important anchor point where all target groups need to be able to access the information they are looking for in a quick and easy way. Our team completely overhauled the original Kom op tegen Kanker website. Together with a digital strategy agency, we analyzed the needs of these target groups and drew up wireframes to create a user-friendly Drupal website. Among other things, the current version of the site includes:

  • 15 CRM integrations via RabbitMQ, meaning registration, brochure requests and orders can all be handled smoothly
  • a link between the contact form and case management system of Kom op tegen Kanker, so that visitors can be put in touch with the right employees quickly
  • a central search index via Apache Solr to enable visitors to find the right information fast

user zone for optimal ease of use

Our latest development is an online user zone that offers access to all relevant applications from one central location. The zone can be used to update your personal details, but also to download your tax certificate, for example.

Aside from offering a solution to these needs, the transformation towards a user zone was also set in motion to facilitate the migration of several decentral logins and applications, so that participation in campaigns could be registered and monitored. This year, Plantjesweekend, the 100 km run, the 1000 km bike ride and De Col op will be fully integrated — and there's much more in the pipeline.

The secret behind this user-friendly environment is the Next.js JavaScript framework. We developed several independent apps that function seamlessly alongside one another by using a single sign on via the Auth0 identity management system. In turn, this all works neatly together with a new management tool for Kom op tegen Kanker based on APIs, and everything is linked to the organizations’ CRM system to ensure all contact data are kept up to date.

Of course, streamlining the entire process, incorporating historic data and enabling users to switch to the new tools presents certain challenges. With that in mind, we are rolling everything out in stages, so that both internal and external users get the time they need to complete the change process in the best possible circumstances.
